Controversial Islamic scholar, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, has raised serious concerns over reports that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, is allegedly operating in Nigeria, warning that such collaboration could endanger the security of Muslim leaders and destabilise the country.
In a post shared on his social media page and obtained by The Bureau News, Dr. Gumi described the development as a “ticking time bomb”, claiming that allowing Mossad to gain a foothold in Nigeria’s security architecture amounts to inviting danger into the nation.
According to a report by Daily Post, the cleric suggested that Mossad’s presence could even lead to “secret killings” of prominent Muslim figures across the country.
Gumi also drew parallels with past events, claiming that the sudden death of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, shortly after hosting Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat in Abuja, was “highly suspicious” and may not have been natural.
“How can this genocidal apartheid government have a footing in Nigeria?” he asked, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was “ill-advised” on the issue.
He argued that any form of intelligence cooperation with Israel would “cost the president more than he may gain,” and urged the federal government to reconsider its alliances in order to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty, unity and long-term security.
Gumi concluded by advising that national security partnerships should never come at the expense of citizens’ safety and the independence of the country.
The Presidency and Nigeria’s security agencies have not yet responded to the cleric’s claims as of the time of filing this report.
