Family of Slain EFCC Officer Demands Justice, Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention

The family of Assistant Superintendent Harisu Aminu Sahabi Salisu of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who was brutally murdered on January 17, 2025, during an operation in Awka, Anambra State, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene urgently and ensure justice is served.

At a press conference in Kano, the elder brother of the deceased, Alhaji Lamir Amin, expressed outrage over the granting of bail to the prime suspect, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, despite what he described as overwhelming evidence of his culpability.

“A Crime Against the Nation”

“We are devastated not only by the tragic murder of our brother, Aminu, who was serving his nation with honor, but also by the miscarriage of justice we are witnessing. How can a suspect who shot and killed a federal law enforcement officer in cold blood be granted bail so casually?” Lamir lamented.

The family suspects foul play and alleged undue influence, noting that the suspect hails from Anambra State, where the killing occurred. They stressed that the case must be treated as a crime against Nigeria’s justice system, not just against their family.

Family’s Demands

• Immediate investigation into why bail was granted to the prime suspect.
• Transfer of the case to a neutral jurisdiction to ensure transparency and fairness.
• Full prosecution of Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu as a deterrent to violence against state agents.
• Compensation and posthumous honor for the slain officer, with protection for his dependents.

Call for Federal Action

“This is not just about our family. It is about the rule of law and national security,” Lamir said. “If those who kill federal officers can walk free, what message are we sending to criminals across the country?”

The family appealed to President Tinubu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Human Rights Commission to treat the case as a matter of urgency and restore faith in Nigeria’s justice system.
