The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed strong concern over reports of an Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, on September 9, 2025, which allegedly targeted senior members of the Hamas leadership.
Nigeria Calls for Respect for Sovereignty and International Law
In a statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria underscored the importance of respecting national sovereignty and upholding international law, especially in matters involving the use of force across borders.
The statement stressed that the incident poses serious threats to regional stability and risks undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“Nigeria urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid escalation, and recommit to peaceful engagement,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Recognition of Qatar’s Mediation Role
Nigeria further acknowledged Qatar’s longstanding role in fostering dialogue and mediation in the Middle East, noting that such efforts remain vital in promoting peace and stability in the region.
The government also extended condolences to victims of the incident and reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for all initiatives aimed at dialogue, de-escalation, and durable peace.
Nigeria’s Commitment to Global Peace
According to The Bureau News, Nigeria reiterated its commitment to work with the international community under the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral bodies to advance peace, security, and the rule of law not only in the Middle East but globally.
