The National Assembly Management has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s attempt to resume legislative duties, insisting her six-month suspension remains valid until the Court of Appeal delivers judgment.
Suspension Still in Effect
In a letter signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the management clarified that the suspension imposed on the Kogi Central lawmaker officially took effect from March 6, 2025.
The Bureau News gathered that Akpoti-Uduaghan had written to notify the Senate of her intention to resume on September 4, claiming it marked the end of her six-month suspension. However, the Clerk explained that the matter is sub judice and cannot be interfered with until the court rules on the case.
“The suspension remains in force pending the outcome of the matter before the Court of Appeal,” the letter stated.
Awaiting Court of Appeal Decision
The National Assembly further noted that no administrative action can be taken while the case is still before the judiciary. It emphasized that the Senate would only review her suspension after the court’s final pronouncement.
Akpoti-Uduaghan will be officially notified of any fresh decision once the legal process concludes.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended earlier in March 2025 over alleged misconduct, sparking widespread debate about legislative discipline and constitutional rights. Her legal challenge is currently before the Court of Appeal.
