A 24-year-old woman named Jumai Sunday and her baby son, Nasir Rabiu, were murdered in an Abuja midnight fire.
According to information obtained by The Bureau Newspaper, the deceased was from Nasarawa State’s Eggon Local Government Area.
According to reports, the event took place in a home in the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Municipal Area Council (AMAC) at Kugbo Furniture Market.
Witnesses at the site reported that on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the fire broke out while the woman and her sole kid were sound asleep.
According to the witnesses, when firefighters had completed containing the situation, neighbors and supporters found the burned bodies of the victims while attempting to reorganize the property.
Lakur Langyi, the police officer in charge of the Karu Division in Abuja, confirmed the incident to reporters, saying that his officers received distress calls from the neighborhood at midnight on Wednesday and went to the location, where they found a lady and her kid dead from burns.
He stated that the police have now started looking into the incident and that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Indeed, there was a fire in Kugbo in a location known as Bakassi. After receiving distress calls at midnight on Wednesday, my men arrived at the scene and found a mother named Jumai Sunday with her 1.5-year-old son burned to death, he added.
Since then, the victims have been laid to rest in Kugbo Cemetery, which is located off the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Expressway.
