Kogi Vigilante Service Rescues Three Abductees, Kills Bandits in Kabba-Bunu Forest Operation

The Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) has announced the rescue of three abducted persons following a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in Suku village, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Three-Hour Gun Battle Ends in Victory

According to a statement issued by Idris S. Idris, Public Relations Officer for the Controller-General of the KSVS, the successful operation occurred on October 9, 2025, around 4:40 p.m. after vigilante personnel received intelligence reports about the abduction of villagers and theft of motorcycles by suspected armed bandits earlier that afternoon.

“The operation lasted three hours and involved intense exchange of gunfire. Our personnel, supported by local hunters, engaged the criminals in a coordinated counter-attack,” the statement read.

Three Bandits Neutralised, Abductees Freed

The KSVS said its operatives, after combing the adjoining forests and laying ambush at strategic routes, successfully neutralised three bandits while others fled with gunshot wounds. The three abducted victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

One of the hunters involved sustained a bone fracture and is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility in Kabba, according to the service.

‘Zero Tolerance for Criminals’ — KSVS Boss

Reacting to the operation, the Controller-General of KSVS, Alhaji Sani Omeiza Ibrahim (fsi+) (Director SSS Rtd.), described the mission as “a display of decisive ruthlessness” against criminal elements threatening the peace of Kogi State.

He reaffirmed that his agency will intensify offensive operations against bandits, kidnappers, and other violent groups operating across the state’s forests and highways. “This is just the beginning — every inch of Kogi must remain secure for our citizens,” he declared.

Governor Ododo Commended for Security Support

The KSVS chief commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his consistent support and logistics assistance to security agencies working to maintain law and order throughout Kogi State. He emphasized that the administration’s cooperation and investment in security have strengthened the capacity of local operatives to respond swiftly to emerging threats.
