Because of the current situation, Unilever Ghana has moved its tea production to Nigeria – Ato Forson
Citing Ghana’s persistent economic difficulties, Unilever Ghana has chosen to relocate its tea production activities to Nigeria, according to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament.
Following President Akufo-Addo’s 2024 State of the Nation address to Parliament in February, he made this revelation on Monday, March 11.
The current economic downturn in the country may lead to other corporations taking similar actions, as stated by MP Ajumako Enyan Essiam.
Concerning the way the Akufo-Addo government is handling the country, Dr. Ato Forson emphasized that the relocation of the business community is concerning and should worry Ghanaians.
Dr. Ato Forson, a former deputy minister of finance, expressed concerns about Ghana’s economic stability and how it would affect regional companies.
“Once more, Mr. Speaker, Unilever Ghana has ceased producing tea in Ghana, where it has long been manufacturing the well-known Lipton brand. Nigeria is now the home of Unilever’s tea production.”
“By sending Lipton tea production to Nigeria, we have lost jobs. The news is not good for Ghanaian workers.”
“Once more, Mr. Speaker, five years after President Akufo-Addo officially opened the plant, Unilever Ghana has been unable to start producing Pepsodent in Ghana. This is a result of the business environment becoming worse.”
