Kogi State Government has taken significant steps to enhance rural development by awarding contracts for the maintenance and rehabilitation of 106.36 kilometres of rural farm roads as part of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
With a valuation of ₦6,387,454,983.00, these contracts represent a significant advancement in enhancing accessibility and increasing agricultural productivity throughout the state.
The contract signing ceremony, conducted on Monday in Lokoja, underscored the government’s dedication to infrastructure development, marked by a sense of enthusiasm and optimism.
The projects were awarded to esteemed construction firms following a comprehensive evaluation process. Notable contractors for these interventions comprise Philko Limited, K-Class Multi-Global Engineering Construction Company JV Ferotex Construction Limited, Zarcus Construction Limited, and NAEL and BIN HARMAL HYDRO EXPORT Nigeria Limited (NBHH).
Every contractor is responsible for providing high-quality work to guarantee the prompt completion of their designated projects.
The government has allocated ₦713,458,813.97 for cross-drainage structure interventions across 66mm, in addition to the road rehabilitation contracts.
The projects will focus on resolving significant drainage challenges in multiple areas, with G-Ariths Engineering Limited, Swaleys Nigeria Limited, and Simat Construction and Civil Engineering overseeing essential initiatives.
During the event, the State Project Coordinator, Engineer Sheidu Obansa, conveyed assurance in the contractors and reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive rural development under the guidance of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
PC KG- RAAMP, Engr. Sheidu Obansa Adamu Engineer Obansa assured the contractors of the state’s steadfast support to ensure the efficient and timely execution of the projects, while underscoring the significance of delivering work that adheres to specified quality standards.
Engineer AbdulBasit Musa, serving as the Infrastructure Engineer for the project, also addressed the audience at the event.
He emphasized the need for strong collaboration between the contractors and the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), highlighting that all essential resources and expertise are available to guarantee the success of these transformative projects.
Mohammed Ibrahim of Philko Limited expressed a firm commitment to maintaining project timelines and ensuring high-quality delivery on behalf of the contractors.
He conveyed his appreciation to the state government for the chance to support its vision for rural development.
Members of the SPIU and other stakeholders participated in the contract signing ceremony, marking a significant milestone in addressing infrastructure gaps in rural communities.
The objective of these projects is to promote economic growth, enhance livelihoods, and improve rural accessibility in alignment with the government’s development agenda.
This recent contract award is a continuation of a similar initiative from October of the previous year, during which contracts for 65.25 kilometres of rural roads were awarded, and civil works are currently underway. The concerted efforts highlight the Kogi State Government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits, facilitating economic transformation and sustainable development in rural communities.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s leadership has facilitated a successful collaboration between Kogi State and the World Bank. The collaboration has produced significant benefits, leading to Kogi State being acknowledged for outstanding project execution. This collaboration is set to drive significant growth and development in Kogi State.
