The Kogi State Government has praised the swift intervention of security agencies and local hunters which led to the rescue of 17 kidnapped passengers along the Lokoja–Obajana road on Thursday.
17 Passengers Freed After Swift Operation
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government confirmed that the victims were freed following the joint action of the Nigerian Army and local hunters, who pursued the abductors and secured the release of all hostages.
The rescued passengers were immediately taken to medical facilities for examination and care.
Condolences Over Fallen Officers
The government also expressed concern over a separate attack on security operatives in Yagba West Local Government Area, which led to the deaths of several police officers.
“These gallant men paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” the statement read, as the state extended condolences to the bereaved families.
Governor Ododo’s Security Commitment
Commissioner Fanwo noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements. He disclosed that personnel and security equipment are being deployed to strategic locations to strengthen safety across Kogi.
The government further urged residents to support security agencies with timely information to help track down perpetrators of recent attacks.
“The Government of Kogi State will never submit to acts of terror. Together with the support of the people and the commitment of our security agencies, we will overcome those who seek to disrupt the peace of our land,” Fanwo stated.
