An intelligence report from the Nigeria Police Force has revealed a disturbing kidnapping plot in the suburbs of Abuja, particularly in the Karu and Kabusa areas. The report, sent to SaharaReporters by a military source attached to the intelligence unit, outlines a planned operation by armed bandits scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, 2024.

Titled “Plan by Armed Bandits to Attack Yet-to-be-Identified Location around the FCT, Abuja,” the report highlights intercepted phone conversations between suspected kidnappers in Karu and an associate in Kabusa. The exchange discussed details of an upcoming kidnapping operation, indicating a potential threat to the security of residents in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the report, the suspected kidnapper from Karu contacted an associate in Kabusa to discuss the location they were planning to target. The conversation revealed that the assailants had recently attacked an undisclosed area around the FCT and were planning another operation. The report suggests that additional gang members had been invited for the operation, scheduled to take place on January 16 or 17, 2024.

The document emphasizes the increasing trend of kidnapping syndicates infiltrating Abuja, drawn by the lucrative proceeds from such operations. The syndicates are allegedly being invited by informants residing in local communities. The report recommends urgent and decisive action to curb the rising menace of kidnapping in the FCT.

In response to the intelligence, the report recommends the following actions:

Informing the FCT Police Command and other tactical teams (DFI-IRT, DFI-STS, etc.) to raise a dedicated team to counter the armed bandits infiltrating the FCT.

Liaising with the Unit for analysis on the suspected informant’s contact number, with the possibility of making an arrest.

The report underscores the need for swift and coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies to address the security threat posed by the identified kidnapping plot. The safety and well-being of residents in Abuja’s suburbs are of paramount concern, requiring proactive measures to neutralize potential criminal activities.
