After 10 days in captivity, the gunmen who abducted Tony Aziegbemi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman for Edo state, called his family and wanted a ransom of N500 million.

Speaking in private with our correspondent, a member of Aziegbemi’s family refrained from discussing the efforts being made by PDP heavyweights in Nigeria, such as Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo, to collect the ransom.

Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP) and Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), asserted that the command was unaware of the substantial ransom that the kidnappers were requesting.

Following his attendance at a political gathering at Government House in the state capital, Aziegbemi was abducted about 11 p.m. in the vicinity of his home on Country Home Road, Government Reservation Area (GRA) Benin.
