Kebbi Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue 14-Year-Old Victim in Ka’oje — The Bureau News Nigeria News Today

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the successful rescue of a 14-year-old boy during a coordinated security operation in Ka’oje, Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the arrests followed a fierce gun battle between police operatives and a gang of five armed kidnappers who invaded the home of Alhaji Buda Sambo of Sire Here village and abducted his son, Aliyu Alhaji Buda.
Police Launch Swift Response, Engage Kidnappers in Gun Battle
Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ka’oje mobilized a joint team of policemen and local vigilantes who tracked the suspects to Sada Forest. The rescue team reportedly engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to retreat into the deep forest with possible gunshot injuries.
Following the confrontation, two suspects identified as Aliyu Alhaji Shehu (alias Altine) and Abubakar Umaru (alias Bube), both residents of Orda village in Bagudo LGA, were arrested. The abducted victim, Aliyu Alhaji Buda, was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family after medical evaluation.
Suspects Confess to Earlier Kidnapping Operations
During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to participating in the abduction alongside their fleeing accomplices — Dogo, Magaji, Bande, and Janyo — all from Bagudo and Orda villages. The statement also linked the same group to another kidnapping incident on October 28, 2025, involving a 70-year-old victim, Alhaji Alti of Orda village.
“The suspects have confessed to the crimes and efforts are ongoing to track down their fleeing partners. The Command remains committed to maintaining peace and protecting residents of Kebbi State,” the police spokesperson stated.
Police Commend DPO’s Swift Action
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the Ka’oje DPO and his team for their professionalism, courage, and swift response during the operation. He urged them to maintain the strong synergy with local vigilantes and community members to effectively curb emerging kidnapping and other violent crimes in the area.
CP Sani also directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for discreet investigation and prosecution of all suspects involved.
Police Call for Public Cooperation
The Command appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to support security agencies with accurate and timely information that could help prevent further criminal activities.
The Bureau News reports that the arrest and rescue come amid intensified security patrols in border communities of Kebbi, where banditry and kidnapping cases have seen a recent surge.
