Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Comrade Yunusa Isma’il, over allegations of dereliction of duty.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, confirmed the governor’s directive, noting that the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
According to the statement, Governor Idris instructed the suspended commissioner to provide cogent reasons why disciplinary measures should not be taken against him for alleged negligence of duty and disregard of his responsibilities as the state’s health commissioner.
The development comes at a time when Kebbi State has been under pressure to strengthen its healthcare delivery system, following recent concerns over the state’s capacity to respond effectively to public health challenges.
The Bureau News reports that the governor has in recent months emphasized accountability and performance within his cabinet, insisting that public officials must demonstrate commitment to their mandates or face consequences.
