Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State – The Kebbi State Government has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, the Emir of Gwandu, following the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment that upheld his legitimacy as the rightful Emir.
In a statement issued by Hon. Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, the state government described the ruling as the climax of a legal tussle that has spanned nearly two decades, bringing much-needed closure to one of the state’s longest traditional leadership disputes.
The statement noted that the prolonged litigation had disrupted the peace and hindered development in the emirate, while also sowing division among members of the royal family.
“This judgment has finally brought an end to the impasse that has weighed down the progress of the emirate. It’s a moment for healing, peace, and unity,” the statement read.
The government called on the Emir to demonstrate magnanimity in victory and urged him to reconcile with all aggrieved parties to restore harmony and reinforce the dignity of the traditional institution.
Citizens of Gwandu Emirate were also encouraged to view the verdict as a turning point for unity and renewed collaboration towards sustainable development, especially under the leadership of Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, whose administration has ushered in significant strides in infrastructure, education, and health.
The government concluded by reaffirming its unwavering support for the Emir and expressed optimism that the Supreme Court decision will usher in an era of stability, prosperity, and cultural revitalization in the region.
