Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has indefinitely postponed the resumption date for both primary and post-primary schools for the 2024/2025 academic session. This decision follows a similar move by the Edo State Government, though the reasons cited by the two states differ.
While Edo attributed its decision to the recent increase in petrol prices, the Kano State Government mentioned “urgent reasons” but did not disclose any specific details.
Primary and secondary schools in Kano, like in many other parts of the country, were set to resume on Monday, 9 September, after being on holiday for over a month. However, in a statement issued on Saturday by Balarabe Kiru, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, the state government announced the indefinite postponement.
Kano’s Commissioner for Education, Umar Doguwa, stated that the decision was necessary for reasons that would enhance the provision of a conducive learning environment for students. He assured the public that a new resumption date would be announced soon.
Parents, pupils, and students have been advised to await further communication from the Ministry of Education regarding the new date for school resumption.
