A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former candidate for the House of Representatives in Dala Federal Constituency, Hon. Ambassador Abdurahman M. Salga, has expressed deep disappointment over the recent wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by some politicians from Kano State.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with The Bureau Newspaper, Hon. Salga, who also serves as the Chairman of PDP One Family, described the defectors as individuals driven by selfishness, fear, greed, and a lack of commitment to public interest.
A Scathing Review of APC Governance
Salga, a known supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, criticized the APC for its track record since taking power, first under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and now under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, the party has done “nothing but oppress and torture Nigerians, plunging them deeper into economic and social hardship.”
Despite these failings, he lamented that some top-ranking politicians from Kano still find their way back to the ruling party, a move he says is neither in the interest of the people nor democracy.
“It’s disheartening to see leaders who claim to serve the people abandoning the PDP to join a party that has consistently failed the citizens. Their motives are selfish—driven by fear of political obscurity or hunger for power, not by love for the people,” he stated.
Call to Action: “Reject Defectors at the Polls”
Salga called on youths, women, and the general public to resist these political moves and remain vigilant.
“Let us unite as a people and not re-elect any politician who defects to the APC. This is the same party that has brought untold hardship to our lives. We must hold them accountable,” he said.
His comments come amid growing concerns within the PDP over internal realignments and party loyalty as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually build momentum.
