Beatrice, the spouse of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the former Deputy Senate President, has returned to Nigeria.
According to The Bureau Newspaper, A UK court convicted Senator Ekweremadu, his spouse, and Dr. Obinna Obeta in May 2023 on allegations of organ harvesting. She arrived today, January 22, in Abuja.
Remember how the court ruled on March 23 that Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and their physician Obinna Obeta had trafficked a Nigerian trader to the UK in order to harvest his organs? This was a violation of the UK Modern Slavery Act of 2015. According to the jury, they planned to take the 21-year-old to London in order to take advantage of his kidney.
According to the UK’s Modern Slavery Act of 2015, the verdict was the first of its type.
Despite claiming health issues during the hearings, Beatrice was given a six-year sentence, while Ike Ekweremadu was given a 10-year prison term. Dr. Obinna Obeta, the physician who assisted the couple during the organ harvesting procedure, received a 10-year prison sentence.
