How The Super Eagles Defeated Cote D’ivoire – Finidi George

by J.J Olawuyi

Super Eagles assistant coach, Finidi George, attributed the team’s victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to discipline and a tactical switch in formation. Following the pulsating match, Finidi George expressed satisfaction, emphasizing that the players adhered to instructions in a strategically played game against the host team.

“We are very happy with the victory but nothing has been done yet. It was a tactical game; we switched formation and had to defend most of the time and using counter-attacks from the flanks. It’s a team (Cote d’Ivoire) that is very good on the ball, so we had to sit back a bit, close the spaces and go on counter-attacks,” he stated.

While acknowledging the win, Finidi George cautioned against complacency and emphasized the need for the players to remain focused and work harder in their upcoming match against Guinea Bissau on Monday.

“We will keep our cool in the next match because nothing has been achieved yet; we go all out again,” he added.

As of now, Nigeria holds the second position in Group A and is set to face Guinea-Bissau on Monday at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan for their third and final Group A match, commencing at 5:00 p.m. (local time).
