The gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party AP in the November governorship election in Kogi State, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, vowed yesterday to bring the state back on track with economic development when elected.

The Accord Party’s candidate, while addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Monday, August 18, 2023, ahead of his visit to Kogi West, said one of his cardinal reasons for vying for the Lugard House is to bring about economic transformation and developmental governance, which are lucidly absent under the current political climate in Kogi State.

The former Chief of Naval Staff lamented the alarming rate of infrastructural decay and the high degree of economic morbidity, which have thrown the people of the state into a deep sea of frustration.

“Our people have been living a life of squalor for the past three and a half years, consequent upon the maladministration of the incumbent governor. Human capital development is utterly minimal, and commercial activity in all parts of the state is all-time low. Hunger in the state is on a biblical scale due to the laying off of legitimate civil servants and the non-payment of workers salaries. All sectors of the Kogi economy have gone comatose. The whole state has turned into an uninspiring environment. It’s so unfortunate”, he said.

Usman Jibrin further stressed that the current precarious condition of the people will become history as soon as he is elected in November.

“My motivation for running for the executive seat is to lift the people out of the current sad situation in which they find themselves under the present unresponsive administration and bring Kogi State back to the path of positive development where everything works normally for the good of the masses. What the Kogi people are facing today under Governor Bello will become history as soon as I’m elected governor”, he stressed.

The Accord Party governorship candidate also vowed to come up with programs that will inspire the Kogi youths to be very productive by providing them jobs, engaging them in vocational training, and giving them access to capital that could be used to start small-scale businesses, adding that no nation, world over, survives without the input of the youths, who’re the driving force of every sustainable economy.

The campaign team is set to hit Kogi West later this week in continuation of his consultations as the party bids to commence a campaign rally proper in the coming days ahead of the November governorship polls.
