As Governor Nasiru Idris of Kebbi State clocks 60, the Kebbi Geographic Information Service Agency (KEBGIS) has commended his visionary leadership and bold reforms that have revitalized land governance in the state.
The commendation came from the agency’s General Manager, ESV Saidu Bashiru Bakuwai, who described Governor Idris’ milestone as a celebration of six decades of impactful leadership, selfless public service, and courageous institutional reform.
“Governor Idris has breathed new life into institutions, restored hope in the public service, and shown rare commitment in reforming the land sector,” Bakuwai said in a congratulatory message.
Redefining KEBGIS for Modern Land Administration
Bakuwai noted that since assuming office, Governor Idris did not merely maintain the status quo at KEBGIS—he redefined the agency’s mission, equipped it with modern tools, and backed it with the necessary political will.
Under his administration, KEBGIS underwent a historic structural transformation. For the first time, the Project Manager’s office was elevated to a General Manager status, granting the agency greater administrative clarity and operational authority.
“In just under seven months, KEBGIS has shown what’s possible when competent leadership meets genuine reform,” Bakuwai said.
Cutting Bureaucracy, Boosting Revenue
One of the most impactful administrative decisions by the Governor was delegating secondary land approval powers to the Attorney General of Kebbi State, a move that has drastically reduced red tape, sped up processing timelines, and improved service delivery.
The results have been impressive:

₦585 million generated as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) within seven months

Over 150 Certificates of Occupancy signed in four months

More than 200 land transactions processed, including assignments, mortgages, and subdivisions

Approval for high-precision survey equipment and installation of new control points to boost survey accuracy and reduce land-related disputes
Building Trust Through Transparency and Innovation
According to Bakuwai, Governor Idris has also reconstituted the Land Use and Allocation Committee (LUAC) to include critical stakeholders. This has significantly improved fairness and transparency in the land allocation process, reinforcing public confidence in land governance.
“Governor Idris has achieved what many cannot in a lifetime. We are proud to be part of this transformational journey,” Bakuwai added on behalf of the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Permanent Secretary, Surveyor General, and the entire KEBGIS staff.
