Former Rivers State Head of Service Refutes Wife’s Kidnapping Claim, Says He Voluntarily Reported to Authorities

Abuja — Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has denied claims made by his wife, Florence Nwaeke, that he was kidnapped, stating instead that he traveled voluntarily to Abuja to meet with security agencies regarding ongoing political developments in Rivers State.

In a video statement released early Saturday, Mr. Nwaeke dismissed his wife’s allegations, suggesting that she had been misled and given a prepared statement to read.

“I am at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet with security agencies and report myself in light of the troubling events unfolding in Rivers State,” he said. “I resigned as Head of Service on Monday due to these developments.”

Refuting his wife’s statement, he continued, “I just saw a video of my wife claiming I had been kidnapped. She was told this and given a script to read. Let me be clear—I have not been kidnapped. I am safe and in Abuja, where I believe it is appropriate to present myself to security agencies, given that their headquarters are here.”

Mr. Nwaeke also emphasized that his wife had no involvement in his official duties while he served as Head of Service, asserting that her claims held no merit.

His remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Rivers State, where internal disputes have drawn national attention. Authorities have yet to comment on his statements.
