The new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has been tasked with reconciling the rift between Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello and Hon. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In what appears to be the first official assignment for the newly elected chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ganduje is saddled with the responsibility of reconciling aggrieved party members in Kogi State as a result of the governorship primary election carried out a couple of months ago.
While there has been a strong rumor linking Hon. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka back to the ruling party, Ganduje’s recent move means the carriers of the said rumor were right after all.
The move to reconcile the two politicians who have been on loggerheads could mean collapsing structures into one another as the tide favors Muri collapsing structures for the Yahaya Bello-led administration ahead of the polls.
I can’t watch things fall apart at our party. Creating different branches from the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter of Kogi State is tantamount to failure, and I can’t sit back and watch that happen. Says Ganduje.
This is the same fate that befell the PDP and the Labor Party during the presidential election. There’s a lesson to learn from such, and we can’t afford to repeat it in Kogi.
People have the right to be aggrieved, as we know, but the ability to bring everyone to the same page makes a political party formidable in an electoral contest. He added.
Muritala Yakubu Ajaka was the former deputy publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who was disqualified on the eve of the APC primary election in Kogi State. He then moved over to the SDP, where he emerged as the governorship candidate.
If the recent resolve of Ganduje is anything to go by, then the return of the SDP governorship candidate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is imminent.
