The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a complete closure of both carriageways of the Third Mainland Bridge, starting from noon on Wednesday to noon on Thursday. Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, disclosed this development in a statement issued to the press in Lagos on Monday. The closure is part of the ongoing rehabilitation efforts on the iconic bridge, marking a significant phase in the repair works.

According to Kesha, this total closure is necessary to facilitate a crucial component of the rehabilitation project. “This critical 24-hour period will not allow for vehicular movement on the bridge, and we urge all road users to plan their routes accordingly,” she stated. Motorists and commuters are advised to make use of alternative routes during this time to avoid any inconvenience.

Traffic management officials will be deployed extensively across the city to assist with traffic flow and ensure smooth movement on alternative routes. Kesha extended her gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation, acknowledging the potential discomfort this closure may cause. “We regret any inconvenience this necessary action may cause and thank everyone for their understanding,” she added.

Echoing the federal announcement, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos, also addressed the upcoming bridge closure. He emphasized the importance of using the designated alternative routes and reassured the public of the government’s commitment to minimizing the impact of the closure. “Our traffic management officials will be on ground to ease movement and we appreciate the public’s patience during this period,” Osiyemi concluded.

This 24-hour bridge closure represents a crucial step in ensuring the safety and longevity of the Third Mainland Bridge, a vital artery in Lagos’ transportation network. The authorities urge everyone affected by this closure to plan their commutes accordingly and cooperate with traffic officials during this period.
