Abuja, Nigeria – Jikwoyi Phase 4 Community in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has been plunged into an unprecedented state of darkness for several months following the breakdown of their transformer. Despite repeated pleas and requests for assistance, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has yet to restore electricity to the area, leaving residents in a dire situation.

The community is extending urgent calls for intervention from influential figures to address their plight. Residents are appealing to Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu to come to their aid. Their calls emphasize the critical need for assistance to resolve the power crisis and improve living conditions in the area.

The prolonged power outage has had severe repercussions for the community. Businesses that once thrived are now folding as owners are unable to bear the escalating costs of running diesel and petrol generators. The inability to operate these generators has not only affected their operations but has also led to a loss of income and livelihood for many.

In addition to the economic hardship, residents are struggling with basic necessities. The lack of electricity has forced many to turn to mai ruwas (water vendors) for their daily water needs. This reliance on external water sources has added an additional financial burden on households already struggling with the loss of power and business income.

The frustration and helplessness of the community are palpable. “We have been without electricity for months,” a resident lamented. “It’s affecting everything – our businesses, our homes, and our lives. We have reached out to AEDC multiple times, but our pleas seem to fall on deaf ears.” Just one transformer can no longer power our community, with over two thousand households waiting to pounce on the next transformer.

The situation has prompted urgent calls for intervention from higher authorities, as the community’s patience wears thin. The continued negligence by AEDC is raising questions about the company’s commitment to providing reliable service to its customers.

As the darkness lingers, Jikwoyi Phase 4 remains in a state of distress, with residents hoping for a swift resolution to their power crisis. The community appeals to the relevant authorities and the general public to take notice of their plight and advocate for immediate action to restore their power supply and alleviate their suffering.

The Bureau Newspaper will continue to monitor the situation and report on any developments regarding the restoration of electricity to Jikwoyi Phase 4 Community.
