Edward Onoja Condemns Insults on Igala People, Urges Respect and Inclusion in Kogi Politics

Former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja, has condemned the use of derogatory remarks against the Igala people during the 2023 governorship election campaigns, saying such actions only united the people and inspired a stronger political message.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with TVC and monitored by The Bureau News, Onoja said the uncomplimentary words directed at the Igalas were both disrespectful and politically reckless, but that the community responded peacefully and powerfully at the polls.
“In the build-up to the 2023 governorship election, terminologies were used on the good people of Igala land. Uncomplimentary words were used. It brought the people together, and they made a statement,” Onoja said.
He maintained that the Kogi East electorate had demonstrated clear political awareness and demanded to be treated with dignity and fairness.
“My people made it clear — treat us well, treat us with respect, treat us with decorum. We have the numbers; we can do and undo,” he emphasized.
Commends Ododo’s Humility, Calls for Security Collaboration
Onoja commended Governor Usman Ododo for his humility and commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Kogi State, describing him as “a leader who listens and leads with empathy.”
“I have no problems with him. I was in his house recently to condole with him on the death of his father. We are on good terms. His humility and approach to workers’ welfare deserve commendation,” he said.
He further advised the governor to engage retired military and security experts from Kogi State to help tackle insecurity, strengthen intelligence, and safeguard rural communities.
‘Too Early to Judge the Government’ — Onoja
Onoja said it was too early to assess Governor Ododo’s performance, noting that meaningful assessment can only begin after two years in office.
“By January 2026, when he will have spent two years in office, we can fairly evaluate his administration,” he said.
He called on Kogites to maintain unity and mutual respect, insisting that the progress of the state depends on inclusion and peace.
