On Wednesday, February 7, a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, directed the federal government to regulate the prices of various goods and petroleum products within a seven-day period.

Justice Ambose Lewis-Allagoa made this ruling following an initial motion presented and advocated by the applicant and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN.

He stated, “Upon hearing the applicant Femi Falana in case number SAN, FHC/L/CS/869/2023, and noting the absence of any counter affidavit from the respondents, namely the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Price Control Board, it is concluded that the facts within the affidavit accompanying the originating motion stand uncontested.”

As a result, the court has approved all the requests made in the motion documents as submitted.

Accordingly, the judge mandated the government of Nigeria to set the prices for Milk, Flour, Salt, Sugar, Bicycles and their spare parts, Matches, Motorcycles and their spare parts, Motor Vehicles and their spare parts, along with Petroleum Products, which encompasses: Diesel, Petrol Motor Spirit (PMS), and Kerosene.
