The Kebbi State Head of Civil Service, Tpl. Malami Muhammed Shekare, has cautioned civil servants against absenteeism, lateness, and truancy, stressing that defaulters will face disciplinary action.
Shekare gave the warning in Birnin Kebbi on Monday after an unscheduled inspection of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) including the Kebbi Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KARDA), IFAD-CASP, Fadama Coordination Office, KASCOM, AcreSal Project Office, Rural Electrification Board (REB), and the Local Government Staff Pension Board.
The Head of Service, who carried out the visit between 12:00pm and 1:00pm, expressed disappointment at the poor turnout of workers, noting that only a handful were at their duty posts during official hours.
“There will be repercussions for absence, laziness, lateness, redundancy, and indolence in service delivery from any civil servant,” Shekare warned.
He commended Governor Nasir Idris for prioritizing civil servants’ welfare, including regular salary and pension payments, improved working conditions, and the completion of the modern Secretariat Complex in Birnin Kebbi.
Shekare stressed that civil servants must reciprocate these efforts by being punctual, dedicated, and maintaining cleanliness in their offices. He lamented that some agencies, particularly IFAD, had offices surrounded by overgrown bushes.
During his visit, Shekare observed that at KARDA, only the DPM, CCO, and three junior staff were present, while no staff were found at IFAD-CASP. At KASCOM, only the Director of Procurement was on duty, while the Fadama Coordination Office had a few staff on ground. However, he praised the AcreSal Project Office for better staff turnout and cleanliness.
The Head of Service assured that unscheduled visits to MDAs would continue, to ensure compliance with civil service rules.
