Abuja, Nigeria – A devastating tanker explosion has rocked the Nyanya-Karu road in Abuja, resulting in a massive inferno that has engulfed more than 50 vehicles, with several people feared dead or severely injured.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to The Bureau Newspaper reported that the explosion occurred in three successive blasts, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and causing widespread panic.
“The fire was uncontrollable. It happened three times, and in a matter of minutes, cars were burning, and people were trapped. It was horrifying,” an eyewitness recounted.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Fire Service, were yet to arrive at the scene, leaving victims to fend for themselves as the raging inferno continued to spread.
Motorists and commuters along the busy route scrambled for safety, with some abandoning their vehicles in an attempt to escape the flames. The extent of casualties remains unclear, but the severity of the explosion has raised fears of significant loss of life.
