Kano Police Arrest Four Suspected Bandits, Foil Attempt to Purchase AK-47

The Kano State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough by arresting four suspected bandits, preventing their plans to purchase an AK-47 rifle.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this while parading the suspects before journalists at the police headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to Kiyawa, the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence gathered by law enforcement operatives.

Arrest and Recovery of Weapons

The suspects—Shukurana Salihu (25), Rabi’u Dahiru (35), Ya’u Idris (30), all from Katsina State, and Muktar Sani (30) from Yandodo Hotoro Quarters, Kano—were apprehended on March 6, 2025, at about 2:00 pm at Chula Filling Station, Hotoro Quarters, Kano.

A thorough search of the suspects led to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, including:

  • Three (3) locally made revolver pistols
  • 12 live ammunition of different calibers
  • Three (3) cartridges
  • Two (2) cutlasses
  • Four (4) knives
  • 24 pieces of ball bearings
  • Cash sum of ₦1,028,800
  • Suspected charms

Ongoing Investigation

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Upon the completion of the investigation, they will be charged to court for prosecution.

The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime and urged the public to continue providing useful information to aid law enforcement efforts.
