Dr. Doyin Okupe, a veteran politician, medical doctor, and former presidential aide, has passed away at the age of 72.
Sources close to the family confirmed that Okupe had been critically ill in recent weeks, with his health deteriorating significantly before his demise. Reports indicate that he succumbed to complications related to cancer, marking the end of a prolonged battle with the illness.
Sahara Reporters revealed that Okupe was hospitalized in October 2023 due to prostate cancer and was later flown to Israel for treatment. However, his condition reportedly did not improve as hoped.
Okupe was first diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago and later developed sarcoma in his right shoulder. Despite his health struggles, he remained active in Nigeria’s political space, serving in various capacities under past administrations.
His passing marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s prominent political figures.
