— Applaud Senate President as a moral leader
— Praise Kogi Central Senator’s intelligence, self-restraint, and strong voice

South-South leaders have dismissed rumors of a rift between the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. They also commended Akpabio as a moral leader and praised Akpoti-Uduaghan for her intelligence, self-control, and strong voice in the Senate.

The leaders, who met on Sunday in Calabar, described the alleged discord as the work of “political mercenaries” and condemned attempts to create division between the two lawmakers. They emphasized that the Senate President holds no grudge against Akpoti-Uduaghan and criticized individuals and groups for introducing unnecessary tension into the Senate’s affairs.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the National Chairman of the South-South Front, Chief John Harry, described the rumors of sexual harassment and sidelining as “wicked and malicious.” He stated that such smear campaigns were designed to tarnish the reputations of both senators and create conflict between Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate leadership.

“These baseless allegations are attempts to damage the image of these distinguished senators and pit the popular, bright, and unflappable Akpoti-Uduaghan against the leadership of the Senate,” Harry said.

The leaders commended Akpabio for his inclusive leadership style and the peaceful atmosphere he has fostered in the Senate. They also lauded Akpoti-Uduaghan for her dedication, fearlessness, and commitment to national development.

“The unwarranted attacks on Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan are an assault on our collective sensibilities. No amount of allegations or criticisms can diminish their contributions to the progress of our nation,” Harry added.

The South-South leaders called on Nigerians, particularly those from the South-South and North Central regions, to rally behind Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan. They expressed confidence that no amount of blackmail or intimidation would derail Akpoti-Uduaghan’s political trajectory.

“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is a dedicated and fearless leader. Her destiny cannot be swayed by fictitious groups or malicious name-calling,” the statement concluded.
