Suspected gunmen have kidnapped two Catholic priests at Gweda Malam in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The victims, Reverend Father Mathew David Dusami of Yola Catholic Diocese and Reverend Father Abraham Samman of Jalingo Diocese, were abducted in the early hours of Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Police Confirm Incident, Vow Swift Action
The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the abduction through its spokesman, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who described the incident as “unprovoked” and “totally unacceptable.”
“The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has condemned vehemently the kidnapping of Reverend Father Mathew David Dusami and Reverend Father Abraham Samman at their residence in Gweda Malam, Numan LGA,” the statement read.
“In a concerted effort to rescue the victims, the command has deployed its operational and manpower assets to track down the kidnappers, ensure the safe rescue of the victims, and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
CP Morris assured the public that the police will not relent in their efforts to safeguard lives and combat violent crimes in Adamawa State.
Call for Public Cooperation
The Adamawa State Police Command appealed to residents for calm and cooperation, urging them to provide useful information that could assist in rescuing the victims and apprehending the culprits.
This latest kidnapping adds to the growing security challenges facing religious leaders and communities across Nigeria.
