VDM Recovers N78 Million from Alleged N180 Million NGO Theft
Social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced the recovery of N78 million from the N180 million allegedly stolen from his NGO’s account.
In an update shared via Instagram on Sunday, VDM expressed gratitude for the progress made in recovering the funds while providing insights into the ongoing investigation.
The theft, initially reported by VDM on Friday, involved the hacking of his NGO’s account. According to Otse, the hackers diverted N160 million to an undisclosed account, while the remaining N20 million was left in the compromised account, which was subsequently placed on Payment Network Disconnection (PND).
The breach occurred shortly after the launch of the Martins Vincent Osei Initiative in October, which quickly garnered public support, raising over N35 million in donations within hours. Music producer Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, further boosted the initiative with a generous N100 million contribution.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions from the public, with some questioning the credibility of the claims. However, VDM confirmed that a suspect had been apprehended in connection with the crime.
In his Sunday update, VDM revealed that the suspect disclosed the involvement of an accomplice who has reportedly fled to Ghana.
“Thanks to the people who called to check up on me. I also want to thank God for the process so far: we have been able to recover N78 million, even though the suspect pointed out that the person he did it with has run to Ghana. So hopefully, we would be going to Ghana very soon,” Otse stated.
The investigation continues as efforts are being made to recover the remaining funds and bring all perpetrators to justice.
