Woman and Lover Arrested for Killing Husband Three Days After Marriage in Gujarat
In a shocking case from Gandhinagar, India, a 23-year-old woman, Payal Dantani, and her lover, Kalpesh Chunara, have been arrested for the murder of Payal’s husband, Bhavik Chunara, just three days after their wedding.
The Incident
Bhavik, a 24-year-old resident of Vatva in Ahmedabad, married Payal on December 10, 2024. On December 13, Bhavik was abducted and later strangled to death. His body was recovered from the Narmada canal on December 15.
According to Bhavik’s father, Kanhaiyalal Chunara, Payal was unhappy with the arranged marriage and maintained a romantic relationship with her maternal cousin, Kalpesh Chunara, for four years prior to the wedding.
Events Leading to the Murder
On the day of the incident, Bhavik left his home on a scooter to bring Payal back from her paternal home in Koteshwar after she had returned there post-wedding. Before leaving, Bhavik reportedly confided in his father that he suspected Payal was unhappy with the marriage.
Bhavik never made it to Koteshwar. His abandoned scooter was later discovered near a temple in the area. Witnesses at the scene claimed that a white Innova car struck Bhavik, after which three men forced him into the vehicle, claiming they were taking him to a hospital.
Payal’s Confession
Suspicions about Payal’s involvement arose after her evasive behavior during questioning. Under pressure, she eventually confessed to orchestrating Bhavik’s abduction and murder.
Police investigations revealed that Payal had informed Kalpesh of Bhavik’s visit to Koteshwar. Kalpesh, along with his relatives Shailesh Chunara and Sunil Chunara, intercepted Bhavik, abducted him, and later strangled him to death. His body was dumped in the Narmada canal.
Payal admitted that she only agreed to marry Bhavik due to family pressure and plotted the murder with Kalpesh to eliminate him and continue their relationship.
Legal Action and Arrests
Following Payal’s confession, the police registered a case of murder, abduction, and criminal conspiracy. Inspector K.B. Shnkhla of Adalaj police confirmed that Payal, Kalpesh, and his accomplices, Shailesh and Sunil, have all been arrested.
The tragic case has shocked the local community and raised questions about the pressures of arranged marriages and the lengths to which individuals may go to defy societal and familial expectations.
