In a chilling attack, bandits reportedly killed nine members of a local vigilante group and abducted their wives in Dantudu Lajinge village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the bandits stormed the village on Monday, targeting the vigilantes. One resident, Bello Dan-Tudu, described the killings as brutal, stating, “They slaughtered nine of them like rams.”
Another eyewitness offered a conflicting account, claiming the victims were shot in the neck at close range. He revealed that a tenth victim survived the attack and is receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
Local Government Chairman Confirms Attack
The Chairman of Sabon Birni Local Government Council, Ayuba Hamisu, confirmed the tragic incident while attending a function in Abuja.
“They killed nine of our people. I’ve suspended all engagements and am heading back home to support my people,” Hamisu said.
Uncertainty Surrounding Victims’ Deaths
While the exact method of the killings remains unclear, the violence has left the community in mourning. The abducted wives of the slain vigilantes add to the grim toll of the attack, heightening fears of further insecurity in the region.

Efforts to obtain confirmation from the Sokoto State Police Command were unsuccessful. Spokesperson Rufai Ahmad did not respond to calls or text messages at the time of this report.
