The Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd., a leading petrochemicals and fertilizer production company based in Eleme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing environmental preservation and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
This was disclosed on Thursday during a high-profile event that brought together key media professionals in Rivers State. The gathering also served as a platform to evaluate the corporate image of the company under the leadership of Dr. Jossy Nkwocha, Head of Corporate Communications, who will be retiring at the end of May 2025. The event also marked the official unveiling of his successor, Mr. Justice Bibiye.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Indorama Nigeria and Executive Director of Indorama Africa, Mr. Manish Mundra—represented by Mr. Deepu Sivadas, Chief Technical Officer, Indorama Nigeria—commended Dr. Nkwocha’s professionalism and media engagement, which he said significantly boosted the company’s public perception.
“Dr. Nkwocha has demonstrated a high level of professionalism in his partnership with journalists in the state. The synergy has positioned Indorama in the right perspective in terms of reportage of the company’s operations,” Sivadas said.
He reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and social impact as critical components of its operational strategy.
Indorama, with a daily fertilizer production capacity of 8,000 metric tons, is recognized as the largest single-train urea facility in Sub-Saharan Africa. The company has earned global respect for its adherence to international best practices and its contributions to Nigeria’s economy through both export and local market supply.
In his farewell remarks, Dr. Nkwocha expressed gratitude to Indorama’s management and the media community:
“I have enjoyed tremendous support from journalists in the state over the past 18 years. Thanks to that support, I haven’t experienced any media crises,” Nkwocha stated.
He officially announced his retirement and introduced Mr. Justice Bibiye as the incoming Head of Corporate Communications, describing him as a seasoned media and communications professional with experience at NTA and AIT.
“I urge you to extend the same level of cooperation to Bibiye as you did to me,” he added.
Mr. Bibiye, in his remarks, lauded Dr. Nkwocha for his contributions and appealed to journalists to continue their support:
“Indorama is a critical national asset, contributing significantly to the economy. Through high-quality fertilizer production, it’s helping Nigeria address food security challenges,” Bibiye noted.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Chapter, Mr. Paul Bazia, commended the company for its achievements and assured continued support from the media.
The event also featured a facility tour of Indorama’s premises and a “Happy Hour” session.
Observers believe that with the transition from Dr. Nkwocha to Mr. Bibiye, Indorama—often referred to as “a plant in a garden” due to its serene environment—will continue its trajectory as a top-tier player in Nigeria’s petrochemical and fertilizer sectors.
