The Plateau State Police Command has dismissed reports of a bomb explosion in Jos, the state capital, on Tuesday. Early on November 12, 2024, rumors of an explosion in the Jos terminus area circulated, sparking concern among local residents.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina addressed the reports, confirming that there was no explosion and that the area remains secure. He urged residents to resume their daily activities without fear, assuring the public of their safety after a site inspection with his management team.
A statement from the Command detailed the incident, explaining that around 8:20 a.m., the Command received a report of a shallow hole suspected of containing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the old JUTH fence on Murtala Way. This discovery initially raised alarm, leading to heightened concern among locals.
Upon receiving the alert, CP Adesina directed the Area Commander Metro and the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to mobilize a bomb squad to assess the situation. Collaborating with the Divisional Police Officer of “C” Division, they secured the area and examined the site. Following a thorough assessment, the team concluded that the hole was free of any explosives, confirming the area was safe.
Commissioner Adesina commended the residents for their vigilance and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public alertness while reassuring that the police are committed to ensuring the security of lives and property across the state.
