Kwankwaso Denies 2027 Power-sharing Deal, Calls Out Atiku for Alleged Falsehood
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has refuted claims of a purported power-sharing agreement involving himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in an interview with Radio France International’s Hausa Service, Mr. Kwankwaso expressed outrage over allegations that he agreed to a rotational presidency deal, dismissing them as baseless fabrications.
Kwankwaso Criticizes Atiku’s Alleged Tactics
According to Mr. Kwankwaso, Atiku’s camp reportedly informed northern clerics and political leaders that a deal had been reached in which Atiku would serve a single term, followed by Kwankwaso and Obi in subsequent terms. The former Kano State governor categorically denied participating in such discussions.
“I was shocked to hear that clerics and leaders were told I agreed to a deal where Atiku would serve one term, myself another, and Peter Obi two terms. This is a complete lie. I was not part of any such agreement,” he stated.
Kwankwaso criticized the former Vice President, saying, “It is unfortunate that people in their 80s are fabricating lies. Such deceit is the root of Nigeria’s problems.”
He added, “When a government is built on lies, it is like laying a foundation on weak structures.”
“PDP is a Dead Party”
Mr. Kwankwaso also took a swipe at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a party in decline, desperately seeking alliances to regain relevance.
“With such lies, how can one trust them to honor promises, like serving only one term? They lack credibility,” he said.

The remarks from Kwankwaso are likely to intensify the political landscape as Nigeria heads toward the 2027 elections. His statement highlights the growing rift among opposition figures, which could have implications for their ability to present a united front against the ruling party.
The PDP and Mr. Atiku are yet to respond to these allegations.
