Suspected internet fraudsters allegedly shot one of their collaborators on Sunday in Okhoro Road, Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, over a disagreement concerning the sharing of N94 million proceeds from an online scam.

The Incident

The victim, identified as an “Aza Man” – a term used by internet fraudsters for someone who provides a bank account to receive fraudulent proceeds – was reportedly accosted by gunmen while driving his Sport Utility Vehicle.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, driving another vehicle, forced the victim out of his car and shot him at close range.

The Dispute

Sources revealed that the victim had allegedly failed to honor a pre-agreed sharing formula for the N94 million scam proceeds.

“While the Aza Man was promised a certain percentage of the amount, he refused and instead retained the fund for himself,” the source explained.

This breach of agreement reportedly angered other members of the syndicate, leading to the violent attack.

Police Response

Edo State Police Command spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the shooting and assured the public that an investigation was underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

“Investigation has commenced, with the aim of arresting the perpetrators,” Yamu stated.

He also confirmed that the victim is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility in Edo State.
