CMA CGM Scandola to Call at Lekki Port
Following closely on the heels of Lekki Port, Nigeria’s deepest seaport, receiving the largest container ship ever to dock at a Nigerian port just a week ago, the port is poised to host yet another colossal container ship, surpassing the size of the Maersk vessel that arrived last Sunday.
The incoming ship, the CMA CGM Scandola, boasts the capacity to transport 14,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containerized imports. It is anticipated to make its entrance at Lekki Port on Monday, January 29, 2023.
An invitation for the official welcoming of the CMA CGM Scandola, as obtained by BusinessDay, reveals that the vessel operates on LNG, aligning with the international sustainability movement.
Biodun Dabiri, Chairman of Lekki Port, remarked during the Maersk ship’s reception that the port’s state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge equipment are well-equipped to accommodate such large vessels. He noted that the arrival of these ships at Lekki Port not only elevates Lagos State but also solidifies Nigeria’s position on the global maritime stage, marking a significant step towards realizing Nigeria’s ambition to become a maritime hub in the Sub-Saharan African region.
