President Tinubu Defends FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Lauds His Performance
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed strong support for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a “good man” and a “performing minister.” “I doff my hat for him.” Tinubu made these remarks during the Presidential Media Chat aired on Channels TV on December 23, 2023.
Responding to criticisms leveled against the former Rivers State governor, Tinubu highlighted Wike’s commitment to transforming Abuja, citing his impactful leadership and visible achievements since assuming office.
“Wike is a good man; he is a performing minister,” Tinubu said. “The problem in Nigeria is that we lack compliance. When someone enforces the rules, people complain. But the fact remains that he is delivering results.”
The President noted that governance often involves making tough decisions, emphasizing that Wike’s approach is aimed at restoring order and ensuring the sustainable development of the nation’s capital.
“Look at Abuja today. Roads are being fixed, illegal structures are being removed, and the city is getting back to its planned structure. That’s the kind of leadership Nigerians need,” Tinubu added.
The President urged Nigerians to support Wike’s efforts rather than criticize, stating that compliance with regulations is essential for growth and development.
Tinubu’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some applauding his defense of Wike and others continuing to question certain policies implemented under the minister’s administration. Nonetheless, the President’s endorsement underscores his confidence in Wike’s ability to drive significant change in the FCT.
