Tuesday saw the arson of a portion of the Abuja Market in Wuse by a vengeful mob and irate vendors following the reported shooting of a man by an officer who had been found guilty.

The man allegedly tried to flee and was shot by an officer stationed at the Mobile Court located in the Abuja market, according to information obtained by The Bureau Newspaper.

The market has been cordoned off by police to restore order while FCT Fire Service officers work to put out the fire and stop it from spreading, according to a trustworthy source at Abuja Market Management Limited who confirmed the reported shooting to our correspondent.

Innocent Amaechina, the AMML’s public relations officer, verified that the fire destroyed the management’s office as well as a number of the market’s stores and cars.

As of the time this story was filed, Amiola Adebayo, the Director of the FCT Fire Service, has not returned calls.

Additionally, SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, stated that she was gathering information on the subject and would respond as soon as she had more.
