President Bola Tinubu’s request to remove Babatunde Irukera from his position as vice-chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has been granted by the senate.
Irukera is not “efficient,” so the president had written to the upper house of parliament requesting that he be fired.
For the president to appoint a suitable successor to Irukera at the commission, the upper house must grant its consent.
In line with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Act 2018’s Section 8(2), the letter states.
“With effect from January 8, I hereby request the Senate’s kind confirmation of Babatunde Irukera’s disengagement from his position as Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC.”
This happened a few weeks after Adamu Abdullahi was named acting chairman of the committee by the president.
Alexander Okoh, the director-general (DG) of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), was also fired at that time by the president.
