The General Who Believed in Me: Admiral Usman Jibrin Mourns Buhari

Abuja, Nigeria – Retired Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Usman Jibrin, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the loss as both national and personal.

In a solemn condolence message made available to The Bureau Newspaper, Admiral Jibrin extended his heartfelt sympathies to the Buhari family, the Government and people of Katsina State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Admiral Jibrin reflected on the former president’s unwavering confidence in his capacity to serve the nation, particularly in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain.

“President Buhari, like President Jonathan, believed in my ability to protect the nation’s waterways and critical assets. His trust meant more than words,” he said.

He praised the late president as a disciplined and patriotic leader, known for his simplicity, personal sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to Nigeria’s unity and integrity.

“As a nation, we have lost a statesman whose life was defined by service, modesty, and commitment to national development. His leadership style and legacy will continue to shape our democracy,” Jibrin stated.

The former naval chief concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul and strength for his family, friends, and the nation at large.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the people of Nigeria on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire progress and unity in Nigeria and beyond,” he added.
