Kebbi State Government Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers — The Bureau News – Nigeria News Today

The Kebbi State Government has appealed to Fulani herders and farmers across the state to live peacefully and harmoniously with one another, reminding them of their long-standing relationship rooted in mutual respect and brotherhood.
Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida made the appeal while leading a high-powered government delegation on a sympathy visit to Kanzanna community in Tilli District of Bunza Local Government Area over the recent violent clash between herders and farmers that claimed several lives and left others injured.
State Government Moves to Restore Peace
Addressing community leaders, Tafida said the frequent clashes between farmers and herders continue to contribute to Nigeria’s broader insecurity challenge. He assured that the Kebbi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris (Comrade), remains committed to finding lasting solutions to the crisis.
“The issue of Fulani and farmers’ clashes is worsening insecurity nationwide. Our administration is working tirelessly to promote peace and harmony among our people,” Tafida said.
He commended the efforts of the Bunza Local Government Chairman, the District Head of Tilli, and security agencies for swiftly restoring calm and preventing further violence. Tafida also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives, urging the bereaved families to accept the tragedy as the will of Allah and bear the loss with faith and fortitude.
Local Leaders Commend Government’s Response
Earlier, the Chairman of Bunza Local Government Area, Hon. Zayyanu Shehu Bunza, expressed appreciation to the state government for its quick intervention and thanked the District Head of Tilli and security personnel for their roles in reconciling both sides.
In his remarks, the District Head of Tilli, Alhaji Muhammad Jabbo Umar, lauded the government’s proactive steps in addressing insecurity and reaffirmed the unity between farmers and herders in the area. He called on all residents to maintain peace and support efforts toward reconciliation.
“Our people must return to the path of harmony. The Fulani and farmers have always lived as brothers; we must preserve that legacy,” he said.
He also appealed to the state government to deploy additional security personnel to strengthen protection in rural communities.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Lasting Peace
According to The Bureau News, Kebbi State has recently intensified peace-building efforts in rural districts through dialogue, compensation, and agricultural support initiatives aimed at reducing friction between farming and pastoral communities.
Deputy Governor Tafida reiterated that peace remains the cornerstone of development and assured residents that the administration would continue to prioritize security and community engagement in its governance agenda.
