Bandits Abduct Residents in Kurmaci Community, Kebbi, Days After Schoolgirls’ Rescue | Nigeria News Today

By Queen Madaki, The Bureau News

A fresh wave of violence has hit Kebbi State as bandits reportedly abducted an unspecified number of residents in Kurmaci community of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, barely 24 hours after the rescue of 24 schoolgirls in the same axis.

Residents told The Bureau News that the attackers, numbering over 30, stormed the community on Wednesday night while most people were asleep.

“They came around midnight. Many of our people were taken, and several were injured,” said Aliyu Dan Galadima, a resident who spoke with our correspondent.

This latest attack marks the third assault on Kurmaci within one month, deepening fears across communities situated along the volatile border between **Kebbi and Zamfara**, a known route for armed groups operating from the Zamfara–Niger corridor.

Galadima added that just days earlier, another group of residents was abducted in Gandun Wasagu, one of several communities repeatedly targeted.

“Some of our people killed in earlier attacks are yet to be buried, and those kidnapped have not been released. This area has become a major target for bandits,” he said.

He appealed to authorities to deploy more security operatives to the area, stressing that residents can no longer go about their daily activities safely.

Police Yet to Confirm Incident

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said he had not been briefed on the incident. He promised to reach out to the DPO in charge of the area, but no update had been provided as of the time this report was filed.
