Nigeria News Today: Terrorists Kill Six Displaced Residents In Taraba Community As Tension Rises

At least six displaced residents seeking refuge in Amadu community in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have been killed by armed terrorists locally referred to as bandits. The Bureau News confirms that the attack deepens long-standing security fears in the region.
Sources told SaharaReporters that the assailants struck late Monday night, killing Terfa Terhemen, Tyoyinga Ngunan, Sondongu Hangem, Aondoso Tsea, Aondona Mteroga and Onov Nyoko. The victims were aged between 27 and 35, with one reportedly about 65 years old.
Christian Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attacks
A Christian leader from the affected area, who requested anonymity for safety, alleged that the attackers were Fulani militias. He warned that residents are already staging protests as the violence intensifies.
“The Fulani militias are responsible for the killing. These killings happen every day. Right now, the residents are protesting,” he said.
The Bureau News gathered that the region has suffered repeated assaults, often stretching local security capacity. According to earlier reports, the BBC and Reuters have previously highlighted rising insecurity in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
Earlier Intelligence Warning Ignored
Earlier this month, residents raised alarms over militant movement into Chanchanji Ward from nearby Donga LGA. Intelligence reportedly indicated planned coordinated attacks targeting Peva–Chanchanji and Kufai Ahmadu communities.
One resident, Terkula Yooso, said communities have endured several previous invasions that displaced thousands.
“These militants have struck surrounding villages before. Many residents are already taking refuge in Peva and Amadu. We cannot survive another round of violence,” Yooso said.
Clerics Warn of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis
The Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Parish in Takum, Rev. Fr. George Dogo, had earlier warned of a widening security breach and the destruction of farmlands. He noted that delayed government response was worsening the humanitarian crisis.
He called for urgent government intervention to prevent further bloodshed and to protect displaced families who now depend on neighbouring communities for shelter and food.
Police Investigation Ongoing
The Taraba State Command of the Nigeria Police Force had previously opened an investigation into similar attacks in Chanchanji, confirming that armed herders were sighted moving across communities.
