Nigeria Moves Forward with Simon Ekpa’s Extradition from Finland
The Nigerian government has officially submitted the necessary documentation to Finland for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a separatist agitator and prominent advocate for Biafra’s secession. This development was disclosed by General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, during an interview on Channels Television.
Government’s Commitment to Legal Action
General Musa confirmed the Federal Government’s proactive stance on the matter, expressing confidence in the ongoing process.
“Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere. Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested. The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken,” Musa stated.
Ekpa’s Arrest in Finland
In November 2024, Finnish authorities detained Simon Ekpa alongside four others on suspicion of involvement in terrorism-related activities. These include incitement to violence and financing terrorism.
The Lahti District Court in Finland subsequently ordered Ekpa’s remand on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
Allegations Against Simon Ekpa
Ekpa, a vocal advocate for the secession of southeastern Nigeria, has been accused of using social media platforms to propagate separatist propaganda. He is also alleged to have incited violent actions and funded activities aimed at destabilizing Nigeria.
