A Chief Superintendent of Police, Modestus Ojiebe, has been abducted along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway near Dei-Dei Police Barracks in the Federal Capital Territory.
Sources revealed that the officer, attached to the Kwara State Police Command, was kidnapped while attempting to fix his broken-down vehicle along the highway.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz with four armed occupants stopped behind Ojiebe and his wife while they were stranded.
“The assailants searched and robbed the officer and his wife of their mobile phones and ATM cards. However, upon discovering his police identity card, they forcibly took him away in their vehicle, leaving behind his wife and their car,” Makama reported.
Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dawaki Division dispatched a patrol team to the scene, and stop-and-search operations have been intensified at major entry and exit points across Abuja in an effort to rescue the officer and track down the kidnappers.
At least three independent security sources confirmed the abduction but declined to provide further details. Attempts to reach FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, for comments were unsuccessful.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over kidnappings and insecurity in the nation’s capital, as residents continue to grapple with rising cases of abductions.
