Despite a recent agreement for a partial ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, hostilities have continued, with fresh attacks reported across Ukraine.
On March 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed in principle to a limited ceasefire with Russia following discussions mediated by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The ceasefire was intended to halt attacks on critical energy and infrastructure targets.
However, just hours after the agreement, Russia launched a series of drone strikes on multiple Ukrainian cities, including Odesa and Kropyvnytskyi. Ukrainian officials reported significant destruction, with fires raging in residential areas and infrastructure sites. The attacks injured at least ten people, including four children.
President Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, stating that Russia’s actions contradict its earlier commitments to de-escalation. “Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, despite its propaganda statements, do not stop,” he wrote in a social media post alongside images of the destruction.
The ceasefire agreement, which was expected to serve as a stepping stone for broader peace negotiations, now appears uncertain. Ukrainian officials have accused Russia of violating the terms, while Russian authorities have yet to issue an official response to the accusations.
The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, urging all parties to uphold their commitments and work toward a lasting resolution to the conflict.
